SPECIAL EDITION - Commemoration of the National Doctor's Day and Youth Pledge Day 2020

October 24 is designated as National Doctor's Day which is synonymous with the anniversary of the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI). In previous years, National Doctors Day was commemorated by holding a series of activities related to health and medicine. The word "doctor" is taken from the Latin "docere" which means "to lecture" or teach. In the past, the title doctor was used as an honorable title for more than 1000 years in Europe. The term doctor in a medical context is any medical professional who is licensed to practice in the art of healing diseases. The history of National Doctor's Day cannot be separated from the formation of IDI in 1950. The first medical association was formed in 1911 with the name Vereniging van Indische Artsen. For approximately fifteen years as medical personnel, in 1926, this organization changed its name to Vereniging Van Indonesische Genesjkundigen (VGI). In 1940, VIG held a congress in Solo. The Congress assigned Prof. Bahder Djohan to develop and think about new terms in the world of medicine. Three years later, during the Japanese occupation, VIG was dissolved and changed to Jawa Izi Hooko-Kai. Furthermore, on July 30, 1950, at the suggestion of Dr. Seni Sastromidjojo, PB Perthabin (Indonesian Thabib Association) & DP-PDI (Indonesian Doctors Association) held a meeting which resulted in the "Indonesian Citizen Doctors Conference (PMDWNI)" chaired by Dr. Bahder Djohan. The climax was on 22-25 September 1950, the First Conference of the Indonesian Doctors Association (MIDI) was held at Deca Park which was then inaugurated in October. In the IDI congress, Dr. Sarwono Prawirohardjo was elected as the first General Chairperson of the IDI.
